Item the first: I am not great at drinking enough water, even though I know that I feel vastly better (including sleeping vastly better) when I'm adequately hydrated.

Item the second: my current preferred rucksack doesn't have external pockets for bottles. What it does have is lots of MOLLE.

So! I acquired myself a MOLLE-compatible bottle pouch, attached it to the side of my backpack, saw that it was good, and... then realised to my intense annoyance, at the first Admin: the LRP event of the year, that actually it would be even more useful if I removed the bottle pouch from the bag, which I wasn't using very much and definitely wasn't routinely picking up before e.g. walking past a standpipe, and attached it to my belt.

It is obnoxious how much better I was at (1) consuming more fluids and (2) refilling the bottle in a vaguely timely fashion with the thing attached to my belt. So I tried it at home!

... yep, water bottle actually attached to me, so that any time I maybe feel vaguely thirsty it is even more Right There than if it's sat on the sofa next to me? and so that any time I wander past a tap and go "... oh huh right" I can refill my bottle, instead of needing to do all three of noticing it needs doing, finding the motive energy to go anywhere near a tap, and remembering to pick the bottle up and take it with me when I'm moving anyway? works much better.

And that is why I have a water bottle holder attached to my belt At All Times, currently, and what is more it's also incredibly useful when gardening, which like Admin: the LRP involves me moving around a lot and losing track of where I've put things down/not remembering to relocate Things when I relocate my Self.
