A bunch of people I know have been putting together wish-lists, and... actually, it seems like a nice idea, so here we go. Here's [personal profile] dingsi's disclaimer (thanks, dude!):
Let me say two things first though:

1. It is okay to want nice things. Post your wishlist! You don't have to be/do something special to "deserve" one! Just accept that sometimes people want to give you nice things! Because it makes them feel good, and/or they think you are rocksauce, or: because!

2. It is okay to not give someone what they want. People can be broke, out of energy, too busy, or simply go "eh, I'm not feeling particularly close to this person" and shrug and scroll past. Doesn't make them bad.

- and rules/guidelines. This is meant to be "an updated wishlist that people can access all year, without stress", and all comments will be screened by default unless you explicitly give me an okay to unscreen.

I won't post more than 10 list items.
I'll keep my list up to date - e.g. remove (or set apart, or strike through) granted or outdated wishes.
I won't expect anything. People aren't obligated to fulfill my wishes, just like I'm not required to fulfill theirs. It's not a popularity contest.
I'm going to thank people, either privately (phone, email, private message) or publicly in this entry. In case you do NOT want me to mention your name, please let me know somehow!

Last updated: May 2018

  1. Elementary season 4 and 5.
  2. Orphan Black S5.
  3. Avatar: Legend of Korra, seasons 2-4.
  4. The recent Star War (TFA, Rogue One grudgingly)
  5. A postcard. I'm dreadful at sending post, but I love receiving it, and I especially love receiving it if it's also art. Cool rocks are especially awesome, but I am very fond of, generally: mountains and trains and trees and really rubbish animals. [HURRAH THANK YOU to these people: [personal profile] forestofglory; [personal profile] ilanin; [personal profile] kake; [personal profile] littlebutfierce; [profile] sorillia; [personal profile] swaldman; [personal profile] rysmiel; [personal profile] barrelofrain; and lots of others I am probably forgetting. <3]
  6. Book tokens. Give the gift of reading, and all that: my list of "authors I have really enjoyed and want to give money to" list always outstrips my "frivolities" budget. (Alternatively, if you'd rather get me specific books I'd like, I'm happy to furnish you with a list!) I have an existing physical Book Token card that I think you might be able to top up: barcode is 6337 9205 1916 1224 122 (but let me know you've done it!)
  7. Perfume-related Wants: Unsound Ephemera.
  8. Send me a poem, and tell me why you like it, and why you thought I'd like it (I'll almost certainly send you one back!)
  9. Use me as a teaching example. Whether it's explaining to a five-year-old that they should use they/them/their when referring to third parties unless otherwise specified, or using me as your token crip friend to browbeat an organisation into holding events in an accessible venue, please feel free. And please let me know about it. <3
  10. Allll the hardcopy Vienna Teng music (or any of it!)

... dropped off the list/fulfilled/etc:

  • Dried bergamot peel for making my own Earl Grey redbush! I found a source for minimally racist EG rooibos so I am happy :-)
  • If you are into perfume, I have an up-to-date wishlist of things I'd like to try at the BPAL.org forums, and in general I am always delighted to try samples containing notes of apricot/plum/stone fruits, blackberry, leather, woods, bay rum/bourbon/spirits, nuts, old books, vanilla, amber, apples, honey, stone, raspberry, herbs, olive, colognes. (Thank yous to [personal profile] rainne and [personal profile] lilysea!) sorted on most of these :D
  • A book recommendation, especially speculative fiction with female protagonists and minimal fail for myself; and for my pet library, anything at all relating to anything LGBT+. [Lots in screened comments - thank you!]

Sometimes, when you are bimbling around Cambridge at night, you overhear conversational snippets to the tune of "Yes, but you see, the problem is, there aren't enough unicorns left in the world."

...

On the other hand, sometimes you get "No, I genuinely do admire Rupert Murdoch."

...

In unrelated phrases I have uttered this evening: O WELL I GUESS I'M DRINKING RACISM TEA THEN :D
