[politics] Alright, let's do this.
Dec. 14th, 2019 06:24 pmHere's a thing I'm finding helpful: yes, the Tories won a horrendous parliamentary majority, but in terms of vote share they lost out, nationally, to centre/left parties. Here's another thing I'm finding helpful: my new MP is a Kurdish woman, replacing a Change UK MP whose politics made me, in several respects, deeply uncomfortable; and in Enfield Southgate Bambos Charalambous kept his seat. The Electoral Reform Society also gives me hope. All of these things are concrete, statistical reminders about what proportion of the population of my country actually considers me disposable.
Nevertheless, we're still living in a political reality featuring alarming parallels to 1930s Germany. We've had a politician murdered by far-right terrorists; ongoing violations of the human rights of disabled people; TERFs (here's your connection); a government elected with a manifesto targetting Gypsies, Roma and Travellers (more).
In the first instance, I'm wanting to funnel my resources toward groups already under attack. Here's a starting point from me.
Organisations to give money to (many of which you can also volunteer with)
Petition- and letter-writing
