... and actually probably just both: here's an e-mail I've just got back from a venue, after I asked about wheelchair access. Spot the problem. ;)
Hi Alex
You certainly can get a wheelchair into the building.
The main bar is on the same level as the stage where the band are
playing, so chair access would be through the main entrance.
The disabled toilet is just three steps down towards the rear of the pub.
If you need any assistance on the night, our staff will be happy to
help where needed, eg. providing table service for drinks.
I will be at the show so feel free to call me if you need anymore info - [mobile number]

Date: 2013-03-04 07:28 pm (UTC)On a related note, having been wandering round Cambridge on Saturday with my friend M who uses a wheelchair: wow the pavements are very much about meeting the minimum standard of accessibility. You have my admiration for not attacking everyone at the council.
(Newnam college also decided that "just" one fairly large step counts as accessible. On the plus side, the X5 was pretty good! Oh, and I also told M about your "part-time crip" tshirt idea and she laughed for about five minutes and says she wants one too :P)

Date: 2013-03-09 01:53 am (UTC)Yeah, the pavements are pretty grotty - I'm needing a lot of help at the moment while my Magic Wheels are off for repair, but when I've actually got them I mostly survive. (POWER-ASSIST WHEELS, yo.)
X5 has typically been pretty good for me... except for the minor awkwardness that they want you to book in advance, phone lines aren't open at the weekend, and I always travel at the weekend and only very rarely know in advance whether I'm going to be travelling at the weekend. (I have had some drivers be shirty at me about this. Thankfully I am eminently capable of being shirty back.)

Date: 2013-03-04 10:34 pm (UTC)From what I remember, most of the food places are upstairs, via a lift that's not easily visible without signs. The table area tends to be quite busy, though, and available tables may require that you navigate between where people have sat.
