cognates that aren't

It occurred to me, this afternoon, while I was in the process of making Very Easy Paella for dinner, that paella as a dish bears at least a passing resemblance to pila[f|u|v].
Apparently it's not a cognate, though! Pilaf is from Sanskrit, via Turkish, with a meaning along the lines of "cooked rice", whereas paella is from Latin via Spanish and refers to the shape of the cooking dish -- with patella i.e. the kneecap as a doublet, again because of the shape.

But: the "very easy" part is that in order to express their Sincere Regrets for a GDPR violation, Merchant Gourmet sent us some freebies including some Smoky Spanish-Style Grains And Rice. So instead of "first make soffrito, then cook everything else, ..." this was "chop up some allium and sweat it for a bit in some olive oil with smoked paprika, then add the rice stuff/tinned artichoke/tinned sweetcorn/frozen broad beans, peas, and green beans, there we go that's a food".
When doing it "properly" I do in fact like to get the layer of Crunchy Rice, and ideally we'd have had some lemon in even for this variant, but as far as "big pile of vegetables made out of things it's easy to keep in stock" goes it works very well for us.
