kaberett | some good things make a post

Beans! I should probably have left them on the plant a bit longer, but nevertheless tonight we had our first broad beans with dinner and they were lovely. (I think here of my utter bafflement, as a relative small, at my mother's enjoyment of her mother's broad beans.)
A built me The Last Big Bed Edging because I noped out of using my power tools. I need to dig holes for its legs, but it does now exist.
Translation State was enough to get me at least slightly unstuck on reading, so having finished that earlier today I've now moved on to Dead Country, which I bought the day it was released and have spent -- what, a month? -- not getting to. I am enjoying myself hugely.
I am looking forward to tomorrow's bread: experimental date and fennel seed.
Strawberries. We are getting enough strawberries for a decent-sized dessert every other day or so. (And A whips the cream and then plates things prettily for me. <3)
It rained, this evening. Not for long, but it did. It rained.
Jostaberries and redcurrants both are starting to come ripe; the first actual artichokes are juuust poking their noses out from between their leaves; tomatoes various have more flowers every time I look at them.
Yoghurt for breakfast: muesli with bonus dried apple, and the dregs of a pomegranate, an a handful of frozen raspberries. (It is only relatively recently that I have resumed having dairy in significant quantities at breakfast, and it makes me very happy.)
I am really, really enjoying Going For A Bit Of A Walk with A in the evenings: meandering around with one another and murbling happily about this that and the other and enjoying pointing things out to each other.
Light. Light late into the evenings; light that I enjoy; the miracle of modern medicine that is still, somehow, miraculous.

re broad beans: may I ask if that was not appreciating them as a relative small, or not appreciating the way they were cooked?

(I was in my teens if not twenties before I made the effort to try them, although I had kinda both of those experiences around green beans as a child —they were usually either canned or cooked with ham and I still don't broadly appreciate ham as a vegetable flavoring.)

...too, I need to figure out if and how broad beans can be grown here, although we did manage some minor success this year with possibly similar in weather demands peas until something came and ate the snow peas 😭.

Yay for strawberries and yay for rain and I hope the date-fennel bread pleases.

It rained, this evening. Not for long, but it did. It rained.

We had about five minutes worth this morning. I mowed about a third of the lawn yesterday, it was already looking parched this afternoon.

ETA: And now we have a hosepipe ban.
