kaberett: a watercolour painting of an oak leaf floating on calm water (leaf-on-water)

*fruit*

We took ourselves out on a brief walk this evening while I tried to work out how a couple of things connected, and in the process it finally dawned on me that the fields we are getting to know will, very soon, contain More Blackberries Than You Can Shake A Stick At.

Also the plum tree I told Adam was a plum tree last time we visited it is now covered in proto-plums! So about the same time as the blackberries get going, I shall see how many of the plums end up in a sad squishy fermenting pile on the floor and then, having assured myself that the alternative is clearly that they will all just get eaten by wasps, gleefully scamper off with as many of them as I can carry.

And maybe thus emboldened I will, this year, actually go and prod the black mulberry outside the civic centre for berries with which to Do Things other than Eat Immediately...

Do, it's an excellent mulberry tree. Bring a stepladder if you can.

My sister was absolutely delighted when I was visiting that the 3-4' high plum tree she planted last year has a tiny proto-plum on it. The chances of it surviving to any size are minimal given 1) it's about 18" off the ground, and 2) Poppy the dog likes squeezing past between the tree and the fence, but it's the little plum tree who could.

Forage all the fruits and whatnot otherwise it will rot and bring the wasps.
