Well, my GP expressed a sincere hope there's something obvious wrong with my bloods

We're gonna test me for renal function, liver function, thyroid function, bone profile, ESR, zinc, iron, vitD, vitB12 and serum folate, and hope that something obvious shows up. GP treated me like an expert patient, trusted my self-report of my PHQ-9 result, and asked sensible questions & appeared to understand my answers. He also made the appropriate noises when I went "lol ESR you know that's gonna be suggestive of systemic inflammation rite".

We have also further discussed loratadine (in particular, how much I can play with the dosage; putting it on repeat; writing me a scrip for more) and my NSAIDs (other people are also getting bitten by the manufacturing issue with mef; he's moved me onto naproxen).

So I didn't get to talk about everything but I have another appt a week on Thursday to discuss results (and maybe sort out more prescriptions), so. Job done, until tomorrow morning at 8.50.

I learned a thing: there is a measurement called "erythrocyte sedimentation rate".

And that Kaberett probably does not have Eric S. Raymond in their blood. (Jeez, that'd make anyone have systemic inflammation.)

Good luck with your tests. I hope they come up with something helpful, and I'm very glad your GP's treating you with the respect you deserve.

No worries, I like looking medical things up on Wikipedia. (I'm serious.)

To save you the etymology: erythros, red; kytos, cell. It's the same as erythema (redness as a medical symptom, like a rash or a sunburn.)

And DEFINITELY hurrah for the GP who gets that sometimes "there's something obviously wrong with your bloods" really is the hoped-for result.

I get the impression it's usually shortened to "sed rate".
Glad they're actually looking for stuff!

Yay for good GP! I cross my fingers for blood results to show something both obviously wrong and easily fixable!

Oh I really hate it with fiery hate when manufacturing issues mean one can't get drugs that work for you. They've stopped manufacturing one of my most useful antihistamine-y thingies. It's all made of Arrrrrggh, so I'm glad you're getting something else - hope it works just as well.

I am so glad to hear that you have a doctor who is competent, respectful of your ability to understand information, respectful of your right to make decisions, and willing to do the work.
